About Shopify problems

Shopify problems can affect either the Shopify admin used by merchants or the online stores and checkouts run on Shopify. Check the Shopify status page first, which lists the admin, checkout and storefront as separate components. If only one store fails while others work, the cause can be that store's own domain, theme or apps rather than Shopify as a whole.

Official information

Shopify official status page (verified )

Our check and Shopify's own status page can disagree. We test from one location and read only the homepage response. The provider reports what it knows about its own systems, such as sign-in, apps or single regions. A site can answer our check while one feature is broken, and a regional problem can affect one location but not another.

How this check works

  • One measurement location (single-self-hosted-probe), not a worldwide test.
  • We read only the response headers of the HTTPS homepage; page content and features are not tested.
  • We follow at most 5 HTTPS redirects and check every new address again.
  • The whole check stops after 10 seconds.
  • Results are reused for 60 seconds; this page refreshes its saved check at most every 10 minutes.

Typical Shopify problems

General fixes: Shopping

  1. Check your orders before retrying If checkout shows an error, look at your orders page and your email for a confirmation before you try again. This avoids ordering or paying twice.
  2. Pause shopping extensions Coupon, price tracking and ad blocking extensions can break checkout pages. Test the checkout in a private window.
  3. Check the card details A decline can come from the card or the bank. Check the card number and expiry date, or ask your bank whether it stopped the payment.
